September..start of fall season
September is the month when temperature comes down in plain areas of Punjab, Pakistan.in September gardeners take a sigh of relief after a long spell of dry heat in may,June and wet spell in July, august .cool breeze starts blowing in morning and evening times.seeds start sprouting.gardens and plants rejuvenate and preparation of soil, pots start for upcoming winter and then spring.after half September when temperature downs significantly i start clearing my flower beds and vegetable patches from grass and weeds which grow during summer and monsoon.online flower and vegetable catalogs are searched for new varieties.old compost pile of previous fall is emptied and mixed with well rotten cow manure for pot mix.few plants bloom in september like naked lilies (lycoris radiata, lycoris aurea ,ox blood lilies, hibiscus, crossandras, passifloras, few crinum lilies, cannas etc.fall seasons brings a spirit of awakening in gardeners because it is time when cold season plants are started which give beautiful and splendid results in spring.i like rain lilies because they bloom in hot season and comes in number of shades and September is month of seed starting but it depends on weather conditions and rain.if rain happens in September twice or thrice then September is best time for seed starting but if September goes dry as is this year then temperature remains high during day time which is very dangerous for young seedlings..especially plants which have very small seeds like fenugreek, carrots, sallads etc are dried dried very soon after sprouting.early varieties of radish and turnips grow easily in September is case with flower seeds, annuals which have big seeds can be grown in September like clianthus, calendula, hollyhocks, cosmos and annuals having small seeds like petunia, calceolaria, mimulus are postponed till mid October.this month is also important for cactus lovers because a lot of cactus bloom in this month like stapelisas and haworthias.for my favorite plant amaryllis this month is of active growth and amaryllis can be shifted in sun now.
